TOTEM bolsters connectivity for the 2026 Formula 1® Spanish Grand Prix
Madrid, 9th September 2026
- Infrastructure Upgrades in Madrid: TOTEM has adapted its telecommunications infrastructure in Madrid to guarantee seamless connectivity throughout the Formula 1 Grand Prix.
- Meeting Peak Demand: The towerco has optimised its network of sites around the circuit to handle traffic surges and ensure high-quality service for major mobile network operators.
- Advanced Technology: The deployment combines smart monitoring ('Smart Sites') with high-capacity battery energy resilience solutions.
TOTEM, Orange Group’s towerco, has announced the completion of network infrastructure upgrades and optimisation work across Madrid. The strategic deployment aims to deliver a top-tier, highly reliable connectivity experience during MADRING, the eagerly anticipated Formula 1 Grand Prix taking place in the Spanish capital in September.
Hosting an international sporting event of this magnitude—bringing together hundreds of thousands of fans, racing teams, and media outlets within a concentrated venue—presents an unprecedented challenge for mobile networks. In response, TOTEM has implemented a targeted technical upgrade across its existing infrastructure, enabling its mobile network operator clients to absorb dramatic surges in voice and data traffic.
Multi-Operator Connectivity and Infrastructure Sharing
As a leading towerco in Spain and France, TOTEM’s business model centres on providing neutral, efficient, and tailored infrastructure-sharing solutions. The upgrade works carried out at the circuit and its surrounding areas will allow telecommunications operators partnered with TOTEM to deliver flawless coverage to both end users and the event’s internal operational services.
Patrick Farges, CEO of TOTEM Spain, commented: “Our mission is to enable ubiquitous, invisible connectivity. An event of Formula 1’s scale in Madrid demands robust, flexible infrastructure capable of responding in real time. Upgrading our infrastructure around the circuit highlights TOTEM’s value as a strategic technology partner: we provide telecom operators with the ideal backbone so their customers can enjoy the best possible 5G experience—without congestion and at maximum speeds.”
Smart Technology and Energy Resilience
TOTEM’s technical plan for the Madrid circuit rests on two core pillars. On one side, Predictive Management and Real-Time Monitoring: Base stations covering the circuit are integrated into TOTEM’s 'Smart Sites' platform. This enables remote, intelligent monitoring of infrastructure health, climate control, site access, and network parameters—ensuring potential issues are detected and resolved predictively before impacting hosted operators’ services.
On the other hand, Resilience and Service Continuity. To prevent power fluctuations or outages that could compromise live broadcasting or race communications, TOTEM has equipped these critical nodes with advanced resilience systems, including high-capacity battery backup solutions.
With this project, TOTEM reinforces its standing in Spain as a benchmark towerco—committed to industry sustainability through site sharing and fully equipped to power connectivity for the most demanding sports and entertainment events.
